About Eddie

Eddie Kagimu — watercolour artist, Norwich

Eddie. Norwich. Flat cap. Suspicious of cameras.

For years I was an accountant. Sensible. Reliable. Deeply, deeply boring.

I'd look at paintings and think — I could do better than that. I said it so often that my mother-in-law eventually got fed up, handed me a set of watercolours, and told me to prove it.

That was 15 years ago. Turns out she was right to call my bluff.

I'm entirely self-taught and based in Norwich. Animals have been in my life forever — my mum was obsessed with dogs, and my grandfather was a farmer. Every school holiday I was in muddy fields learning to read animals. Not their horoscopes. Just the way they carry themselves, the set of their ears, the look in their eyes. That's still what I paint today.

(I don't own a dog myself. My son is allergic. The irony is not lost on me.)

I paint fast, loose, and with as little fuss as possible. No fiddly detail. No overworking. Just watercolour doing what watercolour does best — and hopefully capturing something real in the process. As I always say: it's all in the eyes.

Watch Eddie paint — faster than it looks, slower than he claims.
